yesterday’s recap…

…yesterday, i was really tired, so i only gave five rides. the state of nevada decided to cut down my medication due to funding issues. however, my therapist has advocated for me and they have raised me back up. it’s funny how things work so quickly when you have the right help. it took her less than twenty-four hours to get me what i’ve been fighting for, for over a week! i am very grateful.

…p******a started off my morning, she was a scheduled pick-up. she is a dialysis patient three days a week, for three and a half hours. i asked her how she filled her time while she was receiving her treatment. she told me that she read and recently finished her fourth book. she also has puzzle books, like word searches and fill-it-ins, that keep her occupied. p******a is originally from my hometown, san diego. before moving to nevada, she lived in alaska for twenty years. she said that alaska was beautiful, lush, and green. her family lived in anchorage and she said that the snow wasn’t that bad…she told me that chicago and new york generally got more snow than what they received. she told me that moose came into her yard on a regular basis. i asked about the twenty-four hours of night/daylight and she told me that, that was a big misconception that people had about alaska. she explained this way…june 26 is the longest day of the year…daylight for twenty-four hours on that day, after that everyday starts getting shorter…until the shortest day of the year, when everything is dark for twenty-four hours…and then, the days go back to getting longer again. p******a was smart, funny, and a great conversationalist…

…c*****a was next. she was on her way to work. she sells tires and rims at a tire company. she told me that she really loved her job…

…j*****n was on his way to have breakfast at a local casino cafe, where his father is the chef. i asked what was his favorite thing to eat there and he told that it was the chicken alfredo, but that it wasn’t on the menu right now. he was a nice young man, who struggled trying to enter his promo code, but he finally figured it out…

…d****n, also known as, r****t was one of my absolute favorite passengers so far. he works as a trouble-shooter for sony playstation. he told me that he worked in the “b and b” department…bullshit and brown nosing. that made me laugh out loud. he told me that for $15 an hour, he could sit and bullshit, and brown nose all day long. he told me that his title was “fancy” and i told him that i loved anyone who used the word “fancy,” in a sentence, as my ex always used to. he told me how to get drunk fast and cheaply…just don’t eat before drinking…you get drunk fast and drink less, therefore, spending less. he asked me if i had driven anyone terrible yet…i said that i hadn’t and knocked on my head. he told a horror story about his friend driving two drunk ladies. apparently, they were really obnoxious…one threw up all over the backseat and the other pissed herself while sitting there. i was repulsed and worried. i don’t want to be cleaning up other people’s bodily fluids! d****n, also known as r****t, was delightful…

…n****n was my last ride. he brought out the “mother bird” in me. he was going to smith’s to buy groceries for all of those, in the place that he lived. he was very monotone and very matter of fact. i asked him how his day was and he told me that it was better than two days ago. so, i asked about what made it better than two days ago and he told me that he didn’t remember because, “that was two days ago.” we got to smith’s and he tried to get out, but the door was locked. he said, “hey, are you going to let me out of here or what?” i looked at him and said, “no…n****n, i’ve decided that i like you and i’m going to keep you.” his face lit up and he started laughing…and then, i let him out. i looked at my information later and saw that his trip fare was only $2.75, because it was so short, but that he had given me a $5 tip. i thought that he was so sweet and i just wanted to protect him from those that he lived with, taking advantage of him and making him feel bad about himself…

…and, that was yesterday. i am going to try something different today. i have trouble seeing to drive at night, but vegas is so well-lit and it’s friday night…i’m going to try it! i am planning to go out at 8 pm and drive until i pick-up, p******a, again for her dialysis appointment at 7:30 am…and then, go back to the apartment and sleep until i go back out at 8 pm, on saturday…

lucky number nine…

…my day began at 3:30 am. i got up and was out into the car again by 4:15 am. i was on the way to my first scheduled pick-up and i received another fare. in order to honor the rental agreement, i need to accept 90% of my rides, so, i accepted the add-on…

…my first ride of the morning was d**i. she came out from a club and asked to go across the street to the smith’s grocery store. she was tired, after a long night of dancing. when she got back into the car, i took her to her condo…

…my next ride was my scheduled pick-up, a**a, was headed to mccarran international airport, which secretly terrified me for two reasons. it was still dark out and the last time that i drove to the airport, as just a passer-by…i got completely lost and off course. this woman had so much calm and confidence, that it just automatically soaked into me, too. the moment she got into the car and spoke to me, i was filled with an extraordinary amount of peace. it was wonderful and uncharacteristic of my experience with life. she had the most beautiful accent and i asked about where she was from, where she was going, and what she did. originally she was from the french part of geneva, switzerland…thus the french accent. she was traveling to knoxville to be in her friend’s wedding. she was a geology professor at unlv, which i found to be fascinating. a**a told me something that i didn’t know about switzerland. i assumed that everyone there spoke german, but apparently the city is broken into parts…a german part, a french part, an italian part, and an english part. she was really nice…i liked her a lot…

…next came d**a. she was riding on a bus on her way to work at levi-strauss, when it suddenly went out of service, and she was left stranded. d**a’s job is to guide the computer in sewing the designs on the back pockets of jeans. she liked her job, but felt that her trainer was trying to compete with her…

…followed by, d’*****n. he was interesting because his works with electronics. he builds kiosks and slot machines…

…i took, m***a, to a middle school where she teaches ten emotionally disturbed boys, from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. she was originally from maryland…

…t***r was a kick in the pants. he sent me a text to pick him up at a bar…it said, “don’t worry i’m not a drunk guy…i’m the bartender.” he was chipper, upbeat, and funny. it was his friday and he was anxious to get home to his puggle and dachshund. he was so excited, in fact, that he left his wallet behind the bar. we went back for it. he just got back to vegas a few months ago from three years in the caribbean, on st. thomas. he told me that he could make me a mean whiskey sour. i asked if they had bar food and he told me that it was the best around. i asked if they had fried green beans, but they don’t. he works the late night shift and said it had been really quiet…that he only served two cops all night…

…r****l and her mom were next. they were going to the airport and were headed to nashville, tn. they were going for a business convention for realtors…

…d**n went to work at the mgm grand and spent his trip talking on his phone…

…j***n was pilot riding to the airport. he was getting ready to fly to denver…

i was back to the apartment around 9:00 am. i’m getting into the swing of things and trying to decide what kind of schedule will be the best for me physically…and work for buggs. with time and practice, i will make it all work. see…i am getting closer with each day that passes, to acheiving my goals, and my dream to come home…to a home on the beach. i can have what i want and i will.

the first time…

…is no longer looming before me like some kind of impending doom. the first time has come and gone now, the second time, too…

…i picked up my first fare(s). k****y, party of three, at the albertsons directly across the street from my therapist’s office…

…k****y didn’t look like her photo, but i swooped in and picked her, and her two friends up…

…i let them know that they were my firsts. they laughed. i tried to use the waze app, but it messed me up several times…

…the girls were very gentle and patient with me. once i switched back over to the google app, i was golden…

…k****y was from seattle and here for work, as were the others. we both shared our loves of the pacific northwest…

…we arrived safely and happily at our destination, and i was off. i left for henderson, to pick-up my second fare…

…m**k was my second fare. he was going to retrieve his car. he told me all about his recent trip to san francisco…

…m**k was originally from hawaii, but has lived here for the last ten years. he has a friend that drives full-time for uber…

…i dropped m**k off and drove over to sunset station, where i am currently sitting and waiting for my next fare…
