…by the revivalists…that song makes my heart smile. i can’t stop listening to it. last night before i finally fell asleep, i scoured youtube for all the different versions that i could find.
…of course i had already seen the “official” video, which i love…but, i was able to find about 5-6 more live versions that sounded just as good, if not better than the studio version.
…the revivalists are a 7 piece, “roots driven,” rock band hailing from new orleans, louisiana. they formed in 2007 and are: david shaw (vocals), zack feinberg (guitar), ed williams (pedal steel guitar), rob ingraham (saxophone), george gekas (bass), andrew campanelli (drums), and michael girardot (keys, trumpets).
…there are many reasons why i am currently hooked on this song and band. some things that i have loved ever since i was a little girl and used to enjoy going to the symphony with my grandpa, bud…are horns and woodwind instruments. they have always held my attention.
…that is why i have always loved bands that have incorporated those instruments. bands like: cake, inxs, peter gabriel, u2, bronski beat, and even fleetwood mac ( tusk with the usc marching band). i absolutely love herb alpert and the tijuana brass.
…to me, horns and woodwinds capture a very special feeling…almost like falling in love. it begins as “butterflies” in the tummy, then becomes radiant warmth, which transforms into burning passion, and eventually that just explodes into exuberance and jubilation.
…the first time i heard this song, i was sucked in and entranced. it made me feel like the wind was whipping through my hair…like i was young, free, happy, and unencumbered, without a care in the world. it literally made me think and feel like dancing (even before i ever saw the video) in circles, being close to someone else. it took me back to a time of wonderment and curiosity.
…okay, as far as lyrics go…me being as odd as i am about words and phrases…i love the lyrics, they are just so fun and simple. also, who on earth is going to dislike a song that contains the phrase, “god damned” and the compound word, “holy-ghost.”
…the official video for the song is very similar to what i saw in my mind and felt in my heart, when i heard the song. it was sweet, endearing, and romantic. we all know that i am a sucker for that. i love that it features the reunion of a couple from years before, that come back, remembering what it was like for them previously, and being able to pick right back up where they left off…still dancing, like when they were young.
wish i knew you
